The Christian punk rock four-piece Born Blind was originally from San Diego, California, playing shows in the western part of the United States. All four members of the group- Judd Morgan, Chris Beckett, Kurt Love, and Nate Jarrell- were former members of No Innocent Victim before forming Born Blind. They released their debut album, Pressing On, on Facedown Records in late 1998. Their old-school hardcore sound continued on their last album One For All in mid-2000 on Tooth & Nail Records. Born Blind, toured across the United States, headlining festivals such as Cornerstone Festival and Solid State Festival; before calling it quits in January 2001.
Contrary to popular belief, none of the band members were actually blind. The band name was in reference to spiritual blindness in religious doctrine.

Born Blind’s brief catalogue makes more sense when set against the members’ earlier history. That shared background meant Born Blind arrived with an established connection to the Southern California hardcore scene. The band’s recorded output was compact. Pressing On arrived through Facedown Records in 1998, the same year the group was established, and One for All followed in 2000 through Tooth & Nail Records. Those two releases effectively bookend Born Blind’s main active period. Contemporary accounts also place the band on the road across the United States, including appearances at Cornerstone Festival and Solid State Festival, before the group called it quits in January 2001.
Even the name was tied to the band’s Christian identity. Contemporary descriptions note that “Born Blind” was not a reference to any member being visually impaired, but to the idea of spiritual blindness in Christian teaching. With only two principal releases and a short lifespan, Born Blind left a relatively small discography, but the surviving record of the band shows a clear link between the late-1990s San Diego hardcore scene, Facedown Records and the wider Christian punk and hardcore network around it.
