All Things New: beyond the first album

All Things New came out of Florida with a sound that sat between contemporary Christian pop, folk, Americana and radio-friendly rock. That combination gave the band a different shape from the heavier side of the BEC Recordings roster. Acoustic textures and Southern-flavoured songwriting were as important to their identity as the polished pop production that carried them onto Christian radio and national tours.

Before the BEC deal, the band had already released independent material, including the Overcome EP in 2011. The move to BEC led to the self-titled All Things New album in 2013, produced by Casey Brown and Jonathan Smith. The record introduced the wider Christian music audience to the lineup of Garrett Hornbuckle, Jeff Stein, Joshua Schou and Luke Wycuff and established the band’s blend of faith-centred lyrics, big choruses and rootsier instrumentation.

The group did not simply repeat the same production style after the debut. In 2014 they released the four-song Attic Sessions EP through BEC Recordings. The band described that project as a more stripped-down and organic side of its sound, and the material was recorded by producer Joe Kane in his attic studio. That smaller-scale approach suited songs such as “Washed Over Me” and “New Man”, bringing the folk and Americana elements further forward rather than treating them as background colour.

All Things New also spent the period around the debut building an audience on the road. Contemporary label-era coverage records touring with acts including Newsboys, Rhett Walker Band, Francesca Battistelli and Sanctus Real. By 2015 the band had moved on to a second full-length BEC album, The Good News, extending a catalogue that had begun with independent EPs and grown into a run of nationally distributed releases.

For Waken The Dead, All Things New represents a different branch of alternative Christian music than the punk and metal bands elsewhere in the directory. The connection is not distortion or underground aggression but the way the band blended Christian songwriting with folk, Americana and Southern-pop influences during a period when CCM radio was dominated by cleaner pop-rock formulas. Their best material sits in that space between accessible worship-adjacent music and a more roots-driven band sound.
