Magdalene Rose

Magdalene Rose is an American Christian rock and metalcore musician. She first became known as Maggie English, vocalist and bassist for the all-female Christian metal band GFM, also known as Gold, Frankincense & Myrrh. After GFM ended as a three-piece group, she continued as a solo artist under the name Magdalene Rose.

Her debut solo EP, The Prelude, was released in 2023 through RockFest Records. Her debut studio album, The Heart That Bloomed After Death, was released in 2025.

Career

GFM

Before using the name Magdalene Rose as a solo artist, Rose performed as Maggie English in GFM, a Christian metal band formed with her sisters CJ and Lulu English. GFM described its style as “beautycore”, a term used by the band for its mixture of heavy music, melodic vocals and female-led metalcore. The band released one album, several EPs and singles, and toured for several years before announcing in 2022 that the project would be rebranded around Magdalene Rose as a solo artist.

Solo career and The Prelude

Magdalene Rose released her debut solo EP, The Prelude, on 10 November 2023 through RockFest Records. The EP contains five tracks: “Gorilla Warfare”, “Shark Spray”, “Something Spiritual”, “A Bad Residential”, and “Modern Genocide”.

Mauce.nl reviewed The Prelude and described it as a continuation of the heavy music and faith-based themes associated with GFM, while noting Rose’s vocal performance as the central feature of the solo project. The review also identified Magdalene Rose as Maggie English’s solo project following the end of GFM as a three-sister band.

The Heart That Bloomed After Death

In 2025, Magdalene Rose released her debut studio album, The Heart That Bloomed After Death. Apple Music lists the album as a 14-song release issued on 22 August 2025. NewReleaseToday lists the album as a hard rock/metal release.

Solid Rock Unplugged reviewed the album in January 2026, describing it as a mixture of pop-punk hooks, heavy breakdowns, electronic textures and metalcore elements. The review highlighted the album’s focus on mental health, trauma and faith, particularly in the song “Hey At Least I’m Feeling Something”.

Heaven’s Metal Magazine described The Heart That Bloomed After Death as a ten-song project dealing with subjects including depression, self-harm, body image and childhood trauma.

Touring and public attention

Magdalene Rose has toured with Seventh Day Slumber, with several members of Seventh Day Slumber also involved in her live band. Heaven’s Metal Magazine reported that Weston Evans plays guitar and bass for Magdalene Rose, Blaise Rojas plays drums for both Magdalene Rose and Seventh Day Slumber, and Zach Gallipeau also performs with the group.

In April 2026, Rose received wider media attention after several church-hosted shows connected with the Y2K Reloaded Tour were reportedly cancelled or challenged because of her image and heavy musical style. ChurchLeaders reported that Rose and her husband, Blaise Rojas, discussed the cancellations in an interview and said her music was aimed particularly at people who feel out of place in traditional church settings.

Lambgoat later reported that a youth pastor from one of the churches involved had apologised to Rose following one of the cancellations.

Magdalene Rose’s music has been described as Christian rock, hard rock, metalcore and Christian metalcore. Reviews have noted her use of harsh vocals, clean singing, electronic elements, pop-punk hooks and heavy breakdowns.

Her lyrics often address mental health, trauma, betrayal, depression, body image, abuse, spiritual struggle and Christian hope.
