Subonyx were a British Christian punk band associated with the UK Christian punk underground of the early 2000s. The band are chiefly documented through their appearance on the compilation album Bulldogs & Safety Pins, released by Zero Airplay Promotions.

History

In 2005, Cross Rhythms reported that Zero Airplay Promotions had released Bulldogs & Safety Pins, a compilation of British Christian punk bands. The article listed Subonyx among the unsigned bands featured on the release, alongside Cheddleton and Standing Room Only. It also noted that the compilation included now-disbanded groups such as Cephas, Zedisforzebra and Decapolis.

The compilation was originally released on CD in 2004 by ZAP Recordings and was later digitally reissued in 2015 by ZAP Records. The Bandcamp reissue describes the release as “a Punk Rock Compilation” featuring 14 UK-based Christian punk bands.

Bulldogs & Safety Pins

Subonyx contributed the song “Wasting Time” to Bulldogs & Safety Pins. On the digital reissue, the track appears as track seven with a runtime of 3:19.

The compilation also featured tracks by Decapolis, Cheddleton, Suckerpunch, Bingo Tonight, Ungraded, Zedisforzebra, Cephas, Standing Room Only and Gopherwood.

Musical style

Subonyx were associated with Christian punk and UK punk rock through their inclusion on Bulldogs & Safety Pins. The ZAP Records reissue tags the compilation as punk and identifies it as a UK-based Christian punk release.
